Many counties across the state have imposed burn bans as a result of serious drought conditions in Iowa. On Friday the Knoxville Township Rural Fire Department was called to a report of a grassfire north of Knoxville. A controlled burn grew out of control and spread to a nearby pasture. The fire was extinguished before it could reach a nearby cornfield. Knoxville Township Rural Fire Chief Kenny Thompson tells KNIA/KRLS News that he urges caution when burning outside given the drought. He adds that if you must burn, please attend the burn with fire suppression equipment nearby, and to call in the controlled burn to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
