Iowa’s early duck season begins this Saturday. While conditions are favorable for the ducks, the latest heat wave has created less than ideal conditions for many hunters. State waterfowl biologist Orrin Jones says that seasonal wetlands are largely dry, and while semi-permanent wetlands may have water, it may not be enough to support a boat. Jones adds that shallow water is favored by blue wing teal and other dabbling ducks. Jones goes on to recommend that hunters visit the area they plan to hunt before the season opens in case they need to change their plans.
