A Knoxville couple is facing child endangerment charges after officials say they severely injured their four-month-old child. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were called to Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines in July by the Department of Human Services about a child with injuries. Officials say the child suffered 14 fractured ribs, a dislocated hip, fractured wrist, and fractured femur. The parents’ account of what caused the injuries weren’t consistent with what doctors were seeing. The child was removed from the parents’ custody and warrants for Clayton and Hollie Fischer were issued. They turned themselves into Polk County authorities Monday. Each is charged with four counts of child endangerment causing serious injury and one count of neglect or abandonment of a dependent person. Preliminary hearings for both are scheduled for October 4th in Polk County Court.
