The Polk County Sheriff’s Office reports that a Knoxville couple has been charged with one count each of felony neglect or abandonment of a dependent person, and four felony counts of child endangerment causing bodily injury. Clayton and Hollie Fischer are currently being held in the Polk County Jail. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office tells KNIA KRLS News that on July 17th Polk County detectives were called to meet with the Department of Human Services at Mercy Hospital reference a four month old child with multiple injuries. The manner in which the injuries were reported to the hospital were not consistent with what the doctors were observing at the time. The injuries observed at the hospital included, 14 fractured ribs, a dislocated hip, a fractured wrist and a fractured femur. After detectives arrived, and after speaking with DHS, the child was removed from the custody of the parents. Polk County Detectives investigated the case and filed warrants for both parents of the child, Clayton John Fischer and Hollie May Fischer. Both subjects turned themselves into the Polk County Jail on Monday September 23, 2013. Both are now facing charges of four counts of Child Endangerment Causing Serious Bodily Injury and one count of Neglect of Abandonment of a Dependent Person. Total Bond is $50,000.00 Cash or Surety.
