One discovery the Knoxville Football Squad made this off season and in Friday night’s season opener was freshman wide receiver Trent Davis. It is rare for a freshman to play varsity football, however with the lack of depth for the Panthers, the coaching staff made the decision to play a ninth grader on Friday nights this season. Davis caught three balls for 53 yards and a couple of key third down conversions late in the Panthers’ 21-13 loss to P-C-M on Friday. Coach Troy Rider says it is a big risk play someone that young. Speaking of managing Tanner Dunkin, Rider adds with Dunkin playing quarterback for the time being, a defensive starter…plus punting and attempting field goals, the coaches are already needing to monitor how much they use him. Rider says Dunkin is very versatile, but cannot be overused to the point that he has nothing left at the end of the game. Knoxville journeys north on Highway 14 to Newton this Friday for its second non-district contest.
