While the marquee match-up was taking place across town at Pella High, the Pella Christian football team still put on a great show and bounced after last week’s tough loss to win 31 – 14 over Central Decatur last night. The story of the night was the Pella Christian defense, holding the Cardinals to less than 80 yards rushing on the night when they came into the game averaging in the 200’s on the ground. Coach Darryl DeRuiter says that the Eagles answered the coaches challenges to the team with their effort yesterday. Mason Howerzyl rushed for nearly 150 yards and a touchdown, while Coltin Collins came up with a pick six towards the end of the game to help seal the deal. The Eagles improve to 2 – 1 with the win and they start Class 1A District 7 play with a 1 – 0 record. They travel to Johnston High School next Friday night to play Des Moines Christian for another district contest.
