On Wednesday the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office conducted a verification project on all registered sex offenders in Jasper County. During the project, over 60 registrants had their information verified, however three offenders were unable to be located and found to be in violation of the registry. One of the three men, Jerry Erwin Sanders, Jr. age 52 of Newton, was alerted that a warrant had been issued for his arrest and he contacted the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office. He then turned himself in to the Pella Police Department on Thursday where he was charged with Failure to Register as a Sex Offender 2nd Offense. Sanders was held without bail until Jasper County picked him up for transport. Administrative Assistant Marcia Slycord says that even though Sanders turned himself in, officers in Pella had to work swiftly to confirm the warrant was still valid and that the suspect that was turning himself in, matched all of the paperwork.
