Reconciliation Helped One Woman Move On

HCI Care Services was recently able to grant a wish of reconciliation. Social Worker Mary Jo McClain tells KNIA/KRLS News that they had a patient named Mary who, in her 50s, was approaching the end of her life. McClain says Mary wanted to reconcile with her son, who she hadn’t spoken with for three years. She explains they reached out to Mary’s son, and explained the situation. They were able to convince him to come and visit Mary, who had since been moved into the Kavanagh House in Des Moines. McClain says the Foundation paid for Mary’s son and granddaughter to fly to Des Moines from Colorado, where they spent three days healing wounds and sharing tears and laughter. She adds that the reconciliation allowed Mary to continue her journey to the end of life. McClain says that this is just one of many wishes that HCI Care Services Foundation has granted.
