About 100 feet of sanitary work has been completed, leaving 200 more feet to go in section one of the downtown streetscape project. The contractor said Tuesday that that should take about two-to-three weeks. As they work up in depth, that means they’ll begin working on water and stormwater piping after completing the sewer work.

They’ll be working on sewer services as they come across them, which means that the sidewalk along the west side will begin to have portions torn up and closed at times over the next couple weeks. The contractor plans to level the area with gravel after they finish replacing services. During a meeting Tuesday, City officials asked about prices for steel plates that could be put down temporarily to make the sidewalk more appealing. They’re investigating that option further.

The contractor also said they’ll give businesses one-to-two days’ notice about when they can expect water to be shut off as they replace the water services. Replacement at each individual service point is expected to take less than a day.
