Staff from Pella Co-op Electric went to Washington, D.C. last week to speak with Senators Grassley and Harkin. Their concern was legislation, that if changed, would alter the way FEMA provides aid to Co-op’s for line repairs following damaging storms. Amy Holmquist with Pella Co-op Electric says the proposed change would force Co-ops, such as PCE, to conduct expensive tests on every mile of their current line before being deemed eligible to receive future grant money. Holmquist adds that other Co-ops around the state have been denied grant money that in the past was provided to make repairs suffered during storms.
