They had their troubles, but Pella Christian did beat Cardinal of Eldon in three straight sets this past Tuesday to win their first round Class 2A regional volleyball match. The Eagles racked up ten service errors on their side in the first two games alone but still found ways to win, and even found themselves down 11 – 4 in the third set, but also found a way to win that game and the match. Coach Cindy Nikkel says she chalked some of the miscues up to inexperience in a “win-or-go home” situation. Assistant coach, Kim Gritters is confident that with their second round game with Eddyville-Blakesburg coming up on Tuesday, the Eagles will at least have some of their own confidence of a “sudden death” situation under their belt. Gritters adds that if Pella Christian plays like they did in the Knoxville tournament, she’s confident that her team can and will beat the Rockets. That game is at Eddyville-Blakesburg on Tuesday and will start at seven.
