It wasn’t pretty at times, but Pella Christian’s volleyball team swept Cardinal of Eldon in straight sets on Tuesday in the opening round of the Class 1A regional volleyball tournament. Games one and two were close at first, but the Eagles prevailed in each 25 – 19 and 25 – 17. Game three started out with an 11 – 4 lead for the Comets, until Abbi Pleima came in and helped fuel a 16 – 0 run with three aces to allow Pella Christian to right the ship and win the set 25 – 17. Pleima went 20-for-20 serving, which happened to be one of the few bright spots on the service side. The Eagles had ten service errors to the Comets’ 11. Lauren Jungling had four total aces, Hannah Beltman had ten kills and Becca Gritters had eight. Pella Christian advances to play Eddyville-Blakesburg once again in round two next Tuesday.
