A game more than two weeks in the making, both Pella and Oskaloosa go head-to-head tonight in Mahaska County with the Class 3A football District 8 title on the line. Both teams feature powerful rushing attacks; the biggest difference between the two schools is depth. Andrew Landgrebe, the leading rusher for the Indians, has scored 21 touchdowns and rushed for almost 1,400 yards. After him, Oskaloosa’s next rusher is Mason Wisse with 349 yards and Nate VanVeldhuizen with just over 300 yards himself. Coach Jay McKinstrey says that their key tonight will be to keep Oskaloosa’s offense off the field as long as possible. Pella has four rushers with over 250 yards this season; led, of course, by Noah Clayberg with 658 yards and eight touchdowns. While the Indians have scored several points this year, they have also given up a lot; nearly 32 points per game to be exact. Tonight’s district championship game can be heard live on 92.1 KRLS and streamed live at KNIAKRLS.com with Jamie Brockman and Randy Sikkema on the call. Pregame coverage starts after the KNIA/KRLS Football Friday Night Radio Preview Show at seven with kick-off at 7:30.
