The Knoxville Cross Country Squad will try to get to the state meet today at the Class 3A State Qualifying Meet in Pella. Coach Mike Moats knows that Pella, at least on the boys side is the prohibitive favorite, plus running against the likes of Fort Madison, Fairfield, and Grinnell, all of which are favorites for the top three teams that it takes to make it to the state meet. Moats tells KNIA/KRLS Sports this is one of the toughest state qualifying meets in the state. The Panthers last year were not a team favored to make it into the top three, but snuck in and eventually placed sixth at the state meet. On the girls side, Moats says Courtney Hughs will try one final time to make it to state as a runner. He says she has been focusing more on where she places then what her times have been. The top three teams and the top ten individuals will qualify for the state meet in Fort Dodge.
