Pella used a quick start to defeat Oskaloosa 35-7 and claimed the Class 3A District 8 championship. An Oskaloosa fumble on their opening possession, followed by an interception and a blocked punt led to three rushing touchdowns by Noah Clayberg and a 21-0 first quarter lead for the Little Dutch. After a scoreless second quarter, Pella started the second half scoring on a 23-yard touchdown pass from Clayberg to Ben Konfrst , then Clayberg added his fourth rushing touchdown of the game to seal the win. Oskaloosa’s lone score came midway through the fourth quarter. After Nick Rutledge intercepted a Calyberg pass at the five yard line, the Indians completed a 95 yard drive with a four yard run by Nate Van Veldhuizen. As impressive as Pella’s offense was, the real story may be the defense, as they shut down the rushing attack of Andrew Landgrebe all night long and limited Oskaloosa to 171 total yards. Coach Jay Mckinstrey said it may have been their best defensive performance of the season. Clayberg rushed for 97 yards and four touchdowns while completing six of nine passes for 62 yards with a touchdown and an interception and Nathan Henry rushed for 67 yards as Pella improved to 8-0 and 5-0 in district play and will try to complete an undefeated regular season when they host Winterset on Friday.
