Third down penalties, dropped passes, bad passes, fumbles. You name it, it happened to the Central football team on Saturday in their 23 – 21 loss to Dubuque for Week One of Iowa Conference action. Down 3 – 0 and facing a fourth down situation, Dutch quarterback Aaron Eiseler found Jack Norgaard for a 36 yard pass play over the middle to give Central a 7 – 3 advantage in the second quarter. The Spartans took advantage of several mistakes in the first half; the biggest being an Eiseler pass that was intercepted and returned for a touchdown. Despite all of the miscues, Central’s defense was able to halt the Spartans’ deep threat and keep the Dutch in the ballgame. After a touchdown in the final minute of the fourth period made it a two-point game, an onside kick recovered by Dubuque sealed the deal. Eiseler finished the day 25-for-43 passing with 232 yards and three touchdowns, two of them caught by Brendon Boerm who caught six total balls on the afternoon for 58 yards. Central drops to 2 – 2 overall and 0 – 1 in league play. The Dutch head to Simpson for their next test on Saturday.
