Also related to the partial shutdown, postal services are continuing, and social security checks will continue to be sent. Col. Greg Hapgood with the Iowa National Guard tells KNIA KRLS News that 1,000 full time members of the service were furloughed yesterday because of the government shutdown. Despite this layoff, he says there were no layoffs in Knoxville, and Hapgood doesn’t see any impacts on the Knoxville unit in the immediate future. A stipend is being affected for VISTA Volunteers that includes Central College. As far as local government, Pella City Administrator Mike Nardini doesn’t believe that any services provided by the city will be impacted. Nardini added that as of today, business is as usual at the City of Pella.
