The Knoxville Football Squad redid the offense and defense last night, but the result was still the same as the Panthers fell to Chariton 28-21. Knoxville came out in an I-Formation on offense, and for the most part it was successful, but the Panthers fumbled twice inside the Chargers 30 yard line in the first quarter squandering two scoring opportunities. Knoxville would take the initial lead on a 27-yard pass from Gerrit Davis to Justin Karnes in the second quarter. However, Chariton would tie it with 3:06 left in the first half, then took advantage of a Panther fumble to grab the lead and the momentum heading into halftime up 14-7. The Charger lead would grow to 20-7 in the third quarter, but Knoxville would close the gap down to six with a Tanner Dunkin 26 yard run to the end zone, but Chariton responded with another score, and Knoxville would make it 28-21 on a touchdown from Gerrit Davis to younger brother Trent but never got the ball back after scoring with 4:38 remaining. While it was a loss, Knoxville Coach Troy Rider said he was pleased with the new I-Formation offense. Tanner Dunkin led the Panthers on the ground with 77 yards on 13 carries and a touchdown, while Gerrit Davis had four pass completions for 91 yards and two touchdowns. Knoxville falls to 0-7 on the season and 0-4 in the District. The Panthers will travel to Norwalk next week.
