The Pella boys’ and girls’ cross country teams each won their respective Class 3A State Qualifying Meets at Central College yesterday afternoon. On the boys’ side, Ben Warner was the fastest member of the Little Dutch, coming in fourth place with a time of just under 17 minutes. Sawyer Burton and Adam Sievers were eighth and ninth, respectively. The boys had a total team score of 46 points, beating second place Grinnell by 16. It was a heartbreaking day on the Knoxville boys’ side; Jordan Angove finished 11th, just a second behind the tenth place runner. The Panthers’ boys were sixth as a team. On the girls’ side, the Lady Dutch beat second place Williamsburg by just one point. Tess Roorda had the fastest time at 15:06, and Payton Phelps was third overall with her time of 15:42. Courtney Hughs for Knoxville unfortunately did not make it; she was 19th at a time of 16:47. Knoxville Coach Mike Moats tells KNIA/KRLS Sports that it was a good season for Panther Cross Country and they ended it running their best. The Pella boys’ and girls’ teams advance to the state meet in Fort Dodge on Saturday, November 2 to compete for the state title.
