Already knowing they will be the number one seed out of Class 3A District 8 starting this Wednesday, the Pella High football team has one more goal to achieve this regular season, and that’s to win an outright district championship. They can do that by defeating the team that beat them last year in Week Nine to take the title in 2012, the Winterset Huskies. The Huskies are a different team than Pella faced last year; they are without Cory Briney, who threw for over 1,300 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2012. Their leading rusher, Noah Kaldenburg, who carried the ball for nearly 1,600 yards and 17 touchdowns, is also gone. Overall, Coach Jay McKinstrey says Winterset has been very sharp lately. Depending upon how the other games go, Pella will host either Centerville, Fairfield or Keokuk in round one of the district playoffs this Wednesday. You can hear tonight’s regular season finale streamed live at KNIAKRLS.com, with Jamie Brockman and Randy Sikkema on the call. Pregame starts at 7:00 p.m. with kickoff at 7:30. We’ll have a delayed broadcast of the game on 92.1 KRLS following the KNIA/KRLS Football Friday Night Radio Scoreboard Show.
