Sabers Easily Advance, Saints Stumble in Round One

Twin Cedars had an easy time with Tri-County, but Melcher-Dallas fell to North Mahaska in each school’s first round contests in the Class 1A regional volleyball tournament. Twin Cedars swept the Trojans, 25 – 19, 25 – 6 and 25 – 8. Sam Hammann came up with 20 digs, Bailey Stone and Baylee Zellmer registered seven kills apiece, and Brittney Roby went 24-for-25 serving with nine aces. Things were not as easy in Melcher-Dallas, as the Warhawks swept the Saints in three straight sets, 11 – 25, 16 – 25 and 16 – 25. Anastasia Dennison had four kills and Jazmine Lutz had 13 digs for the Saints. The Sabers and Warhawks will faceoff next Tuesday in Bussey in the second round of the Class 1A regional tournament, while Melcher-Dallas ends their season with a 14 – 9 record.
