Twin Cedars took down Lamoni last night in the first round of the eight-man football playoffs 40-22 in a game that was played in soggy rainy conditions. The Sabers fell behind early as the Demons scored a safety on a bad punt snap. Twin Cedars responded by getting Otis Roby lose for a 20-yard reception to give the Sabers the lead. Lamoni would score another safety to make it 6-4, but the Sabers would make it a 12-4 game on a Garrett Pettyjohn one-yard run. Lamoni took the lead back but the Sabers got momentum heading into the halftime break scoring two quick touchdowns to take a 26-16 halftime lead. Sabers Coach Aaron Allspach told KNIA/KRLS the touchdowns at the end of the half were big for his team. Two more scores by the Sabers would put the game out of reach in the second half. Twin Cedars was helped with seven Lamoni fumbles putting the Sabers in good field position for most of the game. Twin Cedars got 234 yards through the air from Brent Parker while Tim Loeffler ran for 59 yards on 16 carries while Coy Moore led a balanced receiving corps with 76 yards on three catches. Twin Cedars is 10-1 on the season which sets a record for the most wins in one season for the Sabers. Twin Cedars will travel to Adair-Casey Monday night in the second round of the eight-man playoffs.
