The impact of the partial shutdown of the Federal Government continues to be felt across the nation and in Marion County. Locally, one significant impact is that participants in the Women, Infants, and Children’s program, or WIC, will not be issued any new checks until the shutdown is over. Lisa Martin, WIC coordinator with Marion County Public Health, tells KNIA/KRLS that as their budget year begins October 1, no new WIC checks will be written until the shutdown is over. Already issued checks will be honored. She urges participants to continue to come to scheduled appointments in order to remain in the system. Marion County Public Health serves approximately 2,000 women, infants, and children in a five county service area.
