The season was looking grim in the early going for the Pella Christian volleyball team, who got off to a 2 – 11 start. The Eagles were dealing with injuries and sickness in the early going, and didn’t have the same line-up they had when they started the season with a three-sets-to-one victory over Marshalltown, than they did when things seemingly turned around in New Sharon in mid-September. Pella Christian went 5 – 0 and won the North Mahaska tournament with victories over Lynnville-Sully, H-L-V, the Warhawks, Sigourney and Grinnell. Coach Cindy Nikkel says the girls never got down on themselves at any point, and always came to practice and to matches eager to learn and improve. Pella Christian fell to a state tournament-qualifying team, Eddyville-Blakesburg, in the Class 2A regional tournament a few weeks ago, and ended the season with a record of 19 – 16.
