Girls’ basketball gets going tonight for Pella Christian as Martensdale-St. Mary’s comes to town to open up the 2013-14 season. The Eagles went 19 – 6 a year ago, with two of those losses coming at the hands of the eventual Class 2A state champion, Western Christian. It will almost look like a brand new ball team on the court, with only Lauren Jungling and Tessa Howerzyl returning as starters. The Blue Devils were 13 – 10 a year ago, but bring back several key players. Eagles’ coach, Kevin Van Maanen says that while the Blue Devils aren’t gifted vertically, they do defend well, so it will be up to his girls to not make many mistakes tonight. Tonight’s season opener is at Pella Christian, and is scheduled to tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
