At the start of the high school cross-country season, the temperatures were near 100 degrees. That meant teams and coaches had to adjust not only when, but how long to train. Knoxville Coach Mike Moats tells KNIA/KRLS Sports he changed when the kids ran either early in the morning or late in the evening when the temperatures were tolerable. The Panthers lost one meet due to the high temperatures early in the season and another was postponed to the next day. He said that was an unusual circumstance for the weather to be that hot in late August and early September, but he credits his runners for stepping up and getting the job done.
