Knoxville Fire and Rescue staff recently conducted an experiment on deep-frying turkeys. The traditional holiday bird can be deep fried, rather than roasted or baked, but the frying must be done with caution. Chief Jim Mitchell said the reason behind their experiment was to show what happens if that turkey is still frozen when it’s dropped into hot oil. He says you must completely thaw the bird, because anything frozen will create a fire hazard when it hits oil. He also recommends to stand back before immersing the turkey into the fryer.
