Central’s football team nearly pulled off the victory over Wartburg on Saturday, but a fourth quarter field goal by the Knights helped them edge the Dutch, 16 – 14. The two teams combined for 27 points in an action-packed first 17 minutes of the game, which saw a blocked punt, a blocked field goal and a blocked extra point from the Dutch special teams. However, Central would give away the ball themselves several times, including two Aaron Eiseler fumbles and an interception. The score was 14 – 13 Central at the half, and stayed that way after a defense-filled third quarter. With about 11 minutes left in the game, the Knights drove down the field 53 yards to the Dutch 11. With the wind in their face, Michael Bohlke kicked a 28-yard field goal to give the Knights the lead for good. Josh Osborn had 76 yards on the ground, including a 30-yard touchdown run, and Brendon Boerm, ran for 55 yards and a touchdown. With the loss, Central drops to 5 – 4 overall and 3 – 3 on the season. They’ll conclude their regular season next Saturday afternoon at home against Coe.
