Rested and pumped for today, the Pella High boys’ and girls’ cross country teams are looking to bring home some hardware from Fort Dodge, the site of today’s State Cross Country Meet. Last year, the boys finished runners-up to Decorah and the Lady Dutch came in seventh as a team. Coach Doug Cutler says that Davenport Assumption comes in as the overwhelming favorites on the girls’ side, along with Decorah, who he says is well-coached. The Lady Dutch won their state qualifying meet by one point without Kelcey Blommers. Coach Cutler says he expects Blommers to be back for today’s race ready to run. Cutler says everyone on the girls’ side will need to step up and have one of their best races if they want to win today. Jordan Pingel was also missing from the boys’ team at that same state qualifying meet, but is also ready to go for this afternoon. Decorah is also one of the favorites on the boys’ side, and Cutler says the two schools are very evenly matched. Today’s state cross country meet in Fort Dodge is scheduled for a noon start.
