The Iowa Department of Public Safety reminds you that Thanksgiving is the leading day of the year for home fires involving cooking equipment. Safety in the kitchen is important, especially on Thanksgiving Day when there is a lot of activity at the home. Some tips to remain safe during the holidays are to stay home when cooking, and check your turkey frequently; keep kids away from hot stoves and sharp knives and make sure all smoke alarms are working.
