Dale Miller, with the ISU Extension Office in Knoxville says that there are some guidelines to follow when you are out ice fishing this winter. He says for ice fishing or other activities on foot, the ice should be about 4 inches thick, or about the width of the average-sized adult hand. Other general guidelines say ice should be between 12 and 15 inches thick for a medium-sized truck. He recommends to make sure the ice is solid, because white ice or snow ice is not as strong as clear, solid ice. For more information, contact the Extension Office.
