The Pella High girls were handily defeated by the number two team in Class 3A, Bondurant-Farrar last night, 71 – 39. The Lady Dutch shot just 28% from the field, while the Bluejays shot a sultry 60% for the game. Marissa Borgerding led all Pella High scorers with nine points. The Pella boys used a strong second half to down the Bluejays, 75 – 62. Pella trailed by two at halftime, but forced several turnovers with a stingy defense and backcourt press in the final 16 minutes to fuel their victory. Pella High head coach, Mark Core says that his team’s defense in that second half was the “Play of the Game.” Isaac Naaktgeboren had another double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds, Jordan Pingel had 20 points and Bryce Bortscheller scored 11. The Lady Dutch fall to 4 – 3 while the boys improve to 5 – 1; Pella has one big test to wrap up the 2013 portion of their schedule when they go to Grinnell this Friday.
