Two different games and two different outcomes were had for the Central basketball teams on Saturday. The Dutch women survived a second half scare to hold off Presentation (South Dakota), 67 – 52. The Saints started the final 20 minutes with an 11 – 0 run to take the lead after Central had an eight point lead to end the first half. Three players were in double figures, including Rachel Evans, who had a game-high 16, Kaitlin Stump had 15 off the bench, and Kenzie Vander Molen threw in 14. Central’s men couldn’t recover from a 20 point first half deficit, and they fell to Dordt 98 – 76. Sam Markham was the team’s leading scorer with 12 points off the bench, and Kevin Kaerwer added 11. Central’s women are now 5 – 0 to start the season for the first time since 2000-01, while the men fall to 3 – 2. The Dutch women are going for their first six-game winning streak to begin the season in program history this Friday night in Minnesota against Bethany Lutheran, while the men are back at it on Wednesday night in Oskaloosa against William Penn in a game to be heard live on KNIAKRLS.com.
