The Knoxville Girls Basketball Squad steamrolled Chariton last night 58-41. The Panthers started the first quarter with two 7-2 runs and completed the blitz with an 11-2 run to lead 25-6 after the first eight minutes. The Panthers used a full court press for most of the first half to force 14 Chariton turnovers and utilized an up-tempo offense to literally run the Chargers out of their own gym. Coach Jim Utiermarkt told KNIA/KRLS Sports that was exactly what he was hoping for. Ashley Hawkshead led a balanced attack with 12 points while Meredith Cunningham and Ricki Hall had ten. Knoxville improves to 5-1. The Boys realized that getting out to a good start is very important. That did not happen as they found themselves down 23-4 at the end of the first quarter, but outscored the Chargers 59-55 the rest of the way to fall 78-63. Knoxville whittled the lead down to as low as 11 in the final minutes but were unable to get any closer. Chase Higgenbotham led Knoxville with 21 points. The Panthers fall to 2-3 on the season and both teams travel to Newton on Friday.
