Sitting with a record of 5 – 2, the Pella High boys’ basketball team enters the Christmas break with plenty of positives to take away from their first seven games. The Little Dutch have been challenged early this season; in their five wins, including nice victories over Ballard, Fairfield and Bondurant-Farrar, Pella has averaged 74 points per game. Despite missing Nathan Clayberg in the post, Pella is still third in the Little Hawkeye Conference in rebounds per game, behind only Oskaloosa and Grinnell. Coach Mark Core says it is still early in the season. The Little Dutch’s two losses have come to ranked teams in Grinnell and Dallas Center-Grimes, where they’ve averaged under 50 points per contest. Pella plays host to Pella Christian on January 7 for their next test.
