The Pleasantville girls’ basketball team fell to Martensdale St Mary’s on Friday night, 48-29. Turnovers in the second half allowed the Blue Devils to pull away for the victory. Junior Kennedy Core led all Trojans with 18 points on the night. Pleasantville falls to 1-4 on the year. The Pleasantville boys survived a relentless Martensdale St Mary’s team later in the night, 63-61. With less than 10 seconds to go, Jesse Nichols was able to get a steal and passed ahead to Trevor Zoss who drew what seemed to be a shooting foul but after a discussion, officials awarded Pleasantville the basket as goaltending was called on the Blue Devils giving the Trojans the lead for good. Head Coach Tom Wilkins says he was a little disappointed in his team’s effort overall on Friday night. Junior Josh Luna was able lead all Trojans with 22 points on the night. Pleasantville improves to 4-1 on the season. Both the girls’ and boys’ team will host I-35 this Tuesday night.
