Santa for Seniors is a program that’s been around for a few years at the Methodist Church in Melcher-Dallas, but was without a leader this year. Grace DeHeer, 8 year old daughter of Kelley and Brooks DeHeer of Melcher, is taking on the project, with a little help from her parents and friends. The third grader is collecting items such as fleece blankets, slippers, books, puzzles, fruit and puzzle books to wrap up for area seniors who may not otherwise have a gift at Christmas time. Any cash donations received will purchase additional gifts. Last year, Kelley says they delivered gift items to approximately 30 individuals in Melcher, Knoxville and Indianola. Grace and her friends plan to wrap the presents on December 20 at the Methodist Church. To qualify to help wrap, she says “you have to know how to wrap presents and not use a lot of tape like I do.”

To donate, call Kelley DeHeer at 891-8112, or you can drop donated items off at the Melcher-Dallas Public Library.
