The Marion County Board of Supervisors held their first regular meeting of 2014 at the Marion County Courthouse Tuesday morning at 9. Some of the 21 items on the agenda included discussion and consideration of Marion County joining the Greater Des Moines Partnership. Karen Eischen, with Pella Area Development Corporation gave a short presentation, and Knoxville’s City Manager Harold Stewart offered comments as well; both recommended joining the partnership. The Board voted to support joining the partnership.
Another item of discussion was a presentation from McKay Insurance. Dan McKay and Todd Chambers gave a proposal on becoming Agent of Record for insurance coverage for county employees. The Board voted to close discussion and this will be an action item at a future meeting.
A contract was awarded to E&H Restoration for the clock tower maintenance improvement project at the Marion County Courthouse, with a bid of approximately $182,000.
The Board denied a request by the Iowa State Association of Counties to increase taxes for the Road Use Tax Fund. KNIA KRLS will have more details on these and other items discussed during Tuesday’s meeting in future stories.
