Eighteen first half points was not the hot start the Central women’s basketball team was looking for against Coe College on Wednesday, and they fell in Iowa Conference play, 61 – 44. The Dutch shot less than 29% from the field in the first half, and had only two attempted free throws in the opening 20 minutes, while the Kohawks shot 40% and were 9-of-10 from the line. Central finished shooting just under 30% for the game. Kenzie Vander Molen scored 15 points to lead all scorers. The men made it three-in-a-row with a 74 – 63 win over Coe. It seemed like the Dutch carried their momentum from the end of the game on Saturday with Buena Vista over to last night, and it showed, with four more Dutch hitting double figures. Nile Eckermann led in scoring for the first time this season with 20, and Matt Greenfield added a double-double with 15 points and ten boards. Central men’s improve to 12 – 6 on the year and 5 – 2 in the conference. Buena Vista and Loras both lost, so the Dutch are in sole possession of second place within the league. Central hosts Loras next up this Saturday.
