Shooting just 24% from the field for the game, the Central women’s basketball team struggled against Simpson on Wednesday night, losing 58 – 35. The Dutch made just 12 field goals for the game and turned the ball over 17 times in the loss. Courtney Kelderman led all Central scorers with nine points. The men were able to squeak by the Storm in overtime, 84 – 83. Central had to battle back from a six point deficit in the second half, and were down by four with 54 seconds left in regulation before a lay-up, a steal and another lay-up sent the game to overtime. Simpson had another two point lead with 37 seconds, before Kevin Kaerwer hit a three with eight seconds left to give his team the win. After a down performance on Saturday, Matt Greenfield came back to lead all scorers with 25 points, while Kaerwer had 23 of his own. The Central women fall to 9 – 7 overall and 1 – 4 in league play, while the men improve to 10 – 6 and 3 – 2 in the conference. Buena Vista is their next stop this Saturday afternoon for a twinbill in Storm Lake.
