Two competitive games at Knoxville’s Sixth Annual Coaches vs. Cancer Day went two different ways. The Panther girls broke an eight game losing streak by coming back to defeat Chariton 48-41. Knoxville held the Chargers scoreless for the final two minutes while posting seven points of their own. Ashley Hawkshead led four Panthers in double figures with 14 points. Knoxville is now 6-9 on the season. The boys played competitively with another team considered to be one of the best in the area, but still fell to Chariton 73-65. The Panthers had to deal with Chariton’s Daric Laing and his hot shooting all night. Coach Jeff Larson told KNIA/KRLS Sports players like that must be guarded. Knoxville got 20 points from Gerrit Davis 18 from three point range as Knoxville falls to four-and-ten on the season. The Panther squads will play at Oskaloosa on Tuesday.
