Tyler Christian is Marion County’s new county engineer, and he’s gearing up for the winter season. When asked if the county has enough salt and sand stockpiled to carry the roads department through the winter, Christian said there is plenty. He said back in October, previous County Engineer Roger Schletzbaum ordered enough to get the county through an average winter. Christian says since 2008, the supply is now more readily available, with the supplier being located in central Iowa as opposed to out of state as it has been in the past. He adds if need be, it’s also easier now to purchase more if we have a particularly heavy winter.
