If you feel like January 2014 has been a rollercoaster ride of high and low temps, you are correct. WeatherEye Meteorologist Sam Dunaiski says it is because we are right under the polar jet stream. As it wavers to the south, we get the bone-chilling temperatures that we’ve seen recently. To the north and our temps rise to the mid-30s to 40s and even 50s we have seen. Dunaiski says that typically these jet streams are a highway for storm systems, but mostly those have been a few hundred miles to our north or south this winter. He says going into February, it appears that the jet stream should moderate some, and we should see more normal conditions without the wild fluctuations in temperatures.
