The Pella Christian boys and girls basketball teams lost a pair of tough games on the road at
Newton Tuesday. Hannah Beltman, Brooke Mitrisin, and Tessa Howerzyl all found themselves in foul trouble early in the girls’ game, and their limited playing time led to the Cardinals winning, 47-36. The loss drops Pella Christian to 6-10 on the season. The boys had a much better start, jumping out to an early lead on the road, before losing an 11-point lead heading into the fourth quarter, and allowing Newton to force overtime. With the game tied at 68 in OT, Newton inbounded the ball to Chandler Sturtz who passed it off to Joe Banfield who hit the game winner with no time left on the clock. The victory improves Newton to 6-8 on the year, while the loss drops Pella Christian to 6-10. Up next is Homecoming for both squads Friday night against Oskaloosa.
