A pair of strong second halves by both the Pella High boys’ and girls’ basketball teams propelled them to wins over Knoxville on Friday night. Three Pella girls ended up in double figures in their 59 – 36 victory over the Panthers. The biggest difference for the Lady Dutch was their transition offense and finishing their shots under the basket; Pella shot nearly 50% from the field for the game, with a majority of those makes coming in the lane. Jackie Sunderman led Pella with 14 points, and Ashley Hawkshead scored a team-high nine points for the Panthers. Knoxville’s boys came out strong, but Pella ended up on top, 75 – 42. Jordan Pingel led all scorers with 16 points, and Nathan Winters broke out for 15 for Knoxville. Knoxville’s girls fall to 5 – 4, the boys are now 2 – 6. For Pella, the girls improve to 6 – 4 and the boys are now 7 – 2. Knoxville will host Pella Christian next this Tuesday while Pella heads to Norwalk for their next contest, also this Tuesday.
