Strong first half performances were well more than enough for the Pella High basketball teams to come away with sweeps of Oskaloosa on Friday night. The Lady Dutch scored 51 points in the first three quarters to walk away with a 59 – 31 win. Ten different girls found the scoring column in the first half for Pella, and in the end, were led by Mackenzie Gustafson who had 11 and Marissa Borgerding who scored ten. Assistant coach, Wade Van Vark says that it was a pleasant surprise how balanced their scoring was. Four Pella boys found double figures in their 81 – 56 win. Freshman Ryan Van Wyk was a menace, finding his way into the lane several times to end up with a game-high 17 points. Jordan Pingel had 12, Bryce Bortscheller scored 11 and Garret Jansen added ten. Pella High’s girls improve to 10 – 5 while the boys are now 12 – 2. The Dutch will need to rest up and get ready for a tough week ahead of them with Dallas Center-Grimes on Tuesday and Grinnell on Friday.
