The Melcher-Dallas and Twin Cedars’ girls had successful first rounds in the 2014 Bluegrass Conference basketball tournament. The Saints prevailed 51 – 24 over Moulton-Udell; Jessi Anderson had 12 points, and Maddie Roland had a double-double with ten points and ten boards to lead the way for Melcher-Dallas. Twin Cedars won 53 – 35 over Seymour in their opening round game. Brittney Roby and Elizabeth Rowley each scored 15 and Allie Utterback punched in 11 of her own. The Saints’ boys fell 78 – 42 to Mormon Trail. Chase Wetterling scored 24 and Troy Lee had ten. Melcher-Dallas plays Ankeny Christian and Twin Cedars goes to Murray on Tuesday for the quarterfinals. The Saints’ boys will wait to see who they play on Monday.
