The speed limit has changed from 65 to 55 on Highway 5 as it passes by Pleasantville. Pleasantville Police Chief Joe Mrstik says the new signs are being placed this week, and have red flags on them. He says the change is a result of DOT studies that show a reduction in speed can reduce the number of traffic accidents in the area, primarily at two critical intersections with Pleasant and Jasper streets. Mrstik tells KNIA KRLS News that more than 6300 cars pass by Pleasantville every day, and they have seen several serious accidents along that stretch of highway. Chief Mrstik says the Pleasantville Police Department and the Iowa State Patrol have been asked to enforce the limit, and he thinks the DOT did a very good job in implementing this change and that it will reduce accidents.
