Central women’s basketball’s offensive woes continued on Saturday as they fell to Loras, 58 – 42. The Dutch could only muster 22 first half points while the Duhawks put up 36. Central shot just 29% from the field for the game. Rachel Evans led Central’s scorers with 14 points and came up with eight rebounds. Central’s women fall to 9 – 10 on the year and 1 – 7 in league play. The Dutch men had to survive a last-second three by Alex Cline to hold on and win, 76 – 74. Central got out to a quick start, leading 24 – 7, until the Duhawks decided to make a run to get within six at the half. Kevin Kaerwer scored nine of his 28 points in the first 3:30 of the second half on his way to a 23 point outburst in that final 20 minute period. Kaerwer’s 28 was a career and game high, Matt Greenfield had 16 and Nile Eckerman threw in 12 for the Dutch, who improve to 13 – 6 overall and are 6 – 2 in the Iowa Conference and kept pace with first place Dubuque.
