Representative Guy Vander Linden, who sits as the Chair of the State Government Committee, was asked by KNIA/KRLS News why the proposed bill on midwives in Iowa hasn’t moved forward. Vander Linden says there were actually two subcommittees that failed to bring it forward. He continues by saying that since it wasn’t brought forward, that typically means they don’t have the support within the committee and probably on the floor to do it. When asked about his personal opinion on the subject, he says he’s not sure he completely understands the issue. He adds that he feels it’s up to the individual to make the decision on using a midwife or doula, something he says he has no problem with, but doesn’t understand why the state needs to be involved.
